3 Rookie Gutter Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid

Your gutters are an important part of your home that protects it from pooling water and directs it away from your home’s foundation to protect it from damage. They need to be cleaned out regularly due to the debris and dirt that accumulates over time – but you need to do this job carefully. Here are mistakes to avoid.

Improper Safety Gear

Even if you’re just cleaning your gutters, you still have to follow the proper safety procedures to ensure that you’re safe when working on your gutters. After all, you’ll still be off the ground when doing this job. This means that you should be wearing the proper clothing and footwear to protect yourself when cleaning out your gutters. Don’t attempt to climb a ladder without the proper safety equipment, such as rubber shoes or safety boots, so that you won’t slip. Don’t forget to use the proper gloves, goggles and other protective peripherals as well.

Incorrect Tools

When working on your gutters, whether it’s for gutter repair or cleaning, you have to use the proper tools to ensure the job is done correctly. If you’re using the wrong tools or equipment, you might not be able to clean out your gutters properly for them to function properly. In turn, they could remain clogged even after you clean them. If you lack the tools and equipment to carry out the job, we recommend leaving the job to us to ensure that everything is done properly, and you won’t have to worry about anything.

Unstable Ladders

The ladder is responsible for lifting you off the ground and letting you access your gutters to clean them. It has to be secure on the ground and should be leaning on your siding so that it can provide stable support. Make sure that it’s not leaning on the gutters as this could lead to a gutter collapse and could result in injuries. Also, avoid overreaching when you’re on the ladder so you won’t lose balance when repositioning or adjusting your ladder.
